Lighter. More powerful. And with more features than ever—that’s the new 2020 Africa Twin. Ready for even bigger adventures. The whole bike has a restyled and more aggressive look, helped in part by the new paint configurations.

The current Africa Twin comprises two models: the Africa Twin and the Africa Twin Adventure Sports. The latter was more off-road-orientated with its taller suspension and crash bars along with its bigger tank.

The new Africa Twin is powered by a liquid-cooled, parallel-twin engine gets an 86 cc increase in displacement to a 1,084 cc. The result is a peak power boost from 94 to just over 100bhp and a 6% torque increase to 77.4ftlb. The Africa Twin uses a unique twin air-intake design with two vertical filtration elements.

The 2020 Africa Twin’s frame is almost four pounds lighter than the previous model’s. The CRF450R-derived aluminum swingarm has also been made lighter and more rigid. The inverted Showa fork is fully adjustable with huge 45mm tubes and 9.1 inches of travel—the most front-end travel in the 1000cc off-road class.

The new 6.5-inch touch-panel LCD Multi-Information Display has an interactive simulator that demonstrates the main functions of the MID. It will include Apple CarPlay and electronic cruise control is now standard.

Buyers have the opportunity to choose between a Dual Clutch Transmission (DCT), which eliminates the need for a clutch, or a traditional six-speed manual gearbox.
