With a spacious, upscale interior and dynamic performance, the 2020 Honda Accord ranks one of the best car in the mid-size category.

The Honda has three powertrain choices including a hybrid and two gasoline four cylinders paired with a slick-shifting 10-speed automatic and with a continuously variable automatic transmission. Graceful handling is an Honda Accord hallmark and its athletic chassis, lightly weighted steering, and balanced ride come standard across the lineup.

The lineup starts with a 192-hp turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder and a 252-hp turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder. Both engines are smooth operators, but the 2.0-liter offers a rush of power that can easily spin the front tires in first gear. A hybrid is also available and is powered by a four-cylinder and two electric motors.

Both engines are highly fuel efficient. On highway, the Accord Touring 2.0T with the 10-speed automatic bested its own EPA highway ratings by delivering 35 mpg.

The Accord’s interior is surprisingly spacious, and rear-seat passengers in particular will be happier in an Accord than in almost any other mid-size sedan.

Standard features include push-button start, dual-zone automatic climate control and a multimedia system with a 7-inch screen; an available 8-inch touchscreen system adds Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone connectivity.

Standard safety features include forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, lane-keeping assist, adaptive cruise control and automatic high-beam headlights. Blind spot warning with rear cross-traffic alert and front and rear parking sensors are optional.

Pros:

– Well-equipped base trim
– Engine refinement
– Acceleration
– Fuel efficiency
– Safety features
